What are Dental Crowns and Bridges?
All crowns and most bridges allow permanent protection and replacement of missing teeth without needing to remove them for care. Unlike removable devices such as dentures, which you need to take out and clean daily, crowns and bridges are cemented onto existing teeth or implants, and can only be removed by a dentist.
How Do Crowns Work?
A crown can be made of porcelain ceramic or gold alloys, and is used to entirely cover or “cap” a damaged tooth. Besides strengthening a damaged tooth, a crown can be used to improve its appearance, shape or alignment. A crown can also be placed on top of an implant to provide a tooth-like shape and structure for function. Here at Willliams Landing dental clinic, we only use local laboratories to construct your customised crown and we work with you to design a crown that will closely match the shade of your natural teeth so no one will know.
How Do Bridges Work?
A bridge is needed to replace one or more missing teeth for those who choose not to have implants or dentures. It is important to do this because once you have had a tooth removed the remaining teeth may shift, making them vulnerable to gum disease and cavities, or your jaw joints may become imbalanced and develop joint disorder.
Bridges do not need to be removed and can look as natural as your own teeth
